First “issue” in a while with Kristin...
Symptom: Low coolant light briefly flashed when exiting b anked highway ramp but went away shortly after.
Diagnosis: Checked coolant reservoir after shutting engine down for several hours , c oolant level observed to be low. I nspected area around water pump and hoses to be dry, possibly due to evaporation.
Corrective Action: Top up with 50/50 Dexcool and filtered water, re-check coolant level OK.

This. It's the only way to be as sure as possible. Coolant finds it's way out of the strangest places.

May I ask why you would wait several hours? Is that something corvette specific? I’ve always been under the impression it’s fine to open once the pressure has subsided

I don’t think it’s a leak, measured the top up to be around just under 400mL and it’s been several years since it was full. It is an open system as well.

I was prepping and eating my dinner in between, lol.
And Solstice not a Corvette. I think a lot of purists will be alarmed if there is an Ecotec 4-cylinder Corvette, heh.

Nah, I don’t think 400mL loss in just under3 years is an actual leak. Never topped up in between.

Also it's quite annoying to bleed the Solstice's cooling if there's any bubble, so I'm kind of wary of that. It involves removing the reservoir and holding it above the engine to fill...

That’s great (that it looks like that under the hood and isn’t a Vette) ! Yet another reason to like these. And bleeding coolant is the bane of my existence, I have had to the overflow tank thing too, would avoid. I wonder if there would be any way to spin the cobalt SS drivetrain backwards and modify it to squish into a C4. THAT would jimmy-rustle the purists

I’d drive and observe. I change the oil and rotate the tires and inspect every 5,000 miles diligently on all my fleet, a program which has served me well over the years.

Right now I have it topped up, and it hasn’t gone down since. But yeah, I’m in observe mode right now, though I haven’t really fan cycled the system enough yet.

Another thing you can do is get the car good and warmed up, say, after a long highway drive, then turn off the engine and raise the hood and stick your face into the engine compartment in various places and see if you can detect the smell of antifreeze wafting on the hot air rising around the engine. I’ve had a number of times over the years when a coolant leak has presented itself by the smell of the coolant.

Well my last leak I actually saw a whole pool of coolant near the bottom front of the engine... I didn’t even need to try to prove it to the dealer for a warranty last time . Ecotecs love eating water pumps.
